Bed and Breakfast Options
For those of you on a quest for quaintness a bit further afield from our city streets, we’ve got a fine selection of bed and breakfasts that are chainring-friendly. Check ‘em out here and commence practicing your front porch sittin’.
Nearest Airports
- Sonoma County Airport, STS, is closest and most convenient, served by Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines via LAX, PDX, and SEA.
- Oakland Airport, OAK, is 75 miles south on the east side of San Francisco Bay
- San Francisco Airport, SFO is 75 miles south
Airport Shuttle Service
Shuttle service to/from the OAK and SFO airports is served by Airport Express, www.airportexpressinc.com. The buses run practically every hour, but check their site for times/fares. Bike boxes will fit in the luggage compartment. Fares are $66 R/T in January 2013.
Transportation to the GranFondo
We want everyone’s GranFondo ride to start out quickly and easily. With 7,500 people though, it won’t be as easy as just walking up to the line a couple of minutes before the start. We’ve got all our recommendations below about how best to get to the start line without pulling out whatever leg hair you’ve not shaved off already.
The GranFondo start/finish and FondoSonoma Festival will be held at:
The Finley Center
2060 West College Avenue
Santa Rosa, CA
This is the hub from which all GranFondo activity radiates. All you’ve got to do is get here.
Ride Your Bike
The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition is providing FREE BIKE VALET at the FondoSonoma Festival and the Finley Center is located right off the Prince Greenway bike path. Parking at the venue will be very limited and we strongly encourage everyone to get in the spirit of the day by arriving on your bike. We’ll have a bag check-in available that morning so you can stow a change of clothes, etc. Hot showers are also available at the Finley Center post-ride.
Join a Fondo Shop Ride
Local shops will be assisting with the leave-the-car-behind effort by hosting GranFondo shop rides directly from their stores. Fondo Shop Rides will head out early in the morning in time for the start, but won’t be scheduled until we get closer to the 2013 event. Stay tuned to this space.
Take Public Transit
The City of Santa Rosa is offering direct routes between the Downtown Transit Mall (click for map) and the West Side Transfer Center (click for map), which is located across the street from the Finley Center. Schedules are at www.srcity.org/citybus.
The City also offers free weekend parking in the Downtown Parking Structure at 555 First Street and at City Hall, 100 Santa Rosa Ave. There are other parking options in downtown, but there may be a fee involved. Either way, all of them are close to bus transit areas and the bike path leading to the GranFondo. Remember, if you opt to use a parking garage, many bikes on roof racks may not support this decision.
For those of you looking to get to downtown Santa Rosa from further afield, try Golden Gate Transit or Sonoma County Transit. Schedule information for both are available at www.511.org.
Carpool and/or Rideshare
There’ll be a need to get as many people in as many car seats as possible. Please ride with friends or make some friends via the PickupPal group we’ve set up at www.pickuppal.com/pup/group/LevisGranFondo. You can always throw up a request for a ride or offer an empty seat at our Facebook page or via our Twitter feed.
If You Must Drive
There is no street parking on the streets near the Finley Center (Stony Point Road, College Avenue, West Ninth Street) and next-to-no parking at the Finley Center. Several businesses in the adjacent Stony Point Business Park are open on Saturday and their parking must remain available for their customers. Do not park in any area marked as “No GranFondo Parking.”
Download our Parking Map. This is an older version, but we’ll offer an updated map closer to the 2013 event date, so check back then just to confirm any plans you may have made.
NOTE: both directions of Stony Point Rd. will be closed at 7am between West 9th St. and West College Ave. Two-way traffic on the southbound side of Stony Point will resume at 9am. For more information about road closures and impacts to traffic, please see our Road Closure Information page when it goes live approximately three weeks prior to the GranFondo event date.
